Few people realize that Surrey and neighbouring White Rock are known for their beautiful sunsets and access to the water. There are plenty of picturesque public beaches scattered along Boundary Bay for you and your family to visit. Below, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite beaches in and around Surrey, BC.

Crescent Beach

Crescent Beach is definitely the most popular place to hit the beach in Surrey. This expansive public beach features two swimming areas and has lifeguards on duty every day of the week during the summer months. If you’re looking for a little more adventure beyond swimming, the Crescent Beach Paddle Shack is located nearby. Here, you can rent everything from stand up paddle boards to kayaks or even sign up for a guided tour. Lastly, we recommend staying at Crescent Beach until the end of the day as it’s west facing, which means you’ll be rewarded with an amazing sunset.

Blackie Spit

Blackie Spit is the beach for all the nature lovers out there. Walking trails, wildlife sightings, and an off-leash dog area is what you can expect at this Surrey beach. In addition to being a great place to take your dog, Blackie Spit is also home to some of the best bird watching in Vancouver. This particular beach welcomes over 300 different species of birds each year. Other wildlife in the area includes harbour seals, so keep your eyes peeled for them on the sandbars.

White Rock Beach

Although White Rock Beach isn’t technically in Surrey, it’s only a short drive from Crescent Beach so we’ve added it to this list. White Rock Beach offers a mix of relaxing sand and water, mixed with shops, restaurants, and seasonal events. White Rock Beach is divided up into East Beach and West Beach. East Beach is generally known as being the quieter, more relaxing beach, while West Beach often has more going on, such as markets and fairs or live performances. West Beach is also home to White Rock’s scenic pier, a great place to walk especially at sunset.

If you plan on hitting the beach while in Surrey, then you’ll want to book a room at the Comfort Inn & Suites Surrey. Just a short distance from some of the best beaches in the city, we combine top-notch service and family-friendly amenities with a convenient location.
